By now you’ve probably seen the unbearable adverts on television and had their catchy jingles stuck in your head all day but car insurers that cater specifically for women have become increasingly popular with the fairer sex. Obviously there are the lower priced policies for them as they are rumoured to be “safer drivers” but in recent months it’s been revealed that these niche insurers have much broader appeal than cheaper car insurance.

In a straight comparison of like for like drivers, the fairer sex can expect anything up to £300 less on their car insurance which is almost beyond compare. Women’s car insurance benefits from specialist insurers which only deal with women drivers. The niche market is growing however, as insurers base their rates on pure statistical risk, and with women the fact is the risk is much less than with their male counterparts.

I’m comparing auto quotes online, and it’s ridiculous how much a 21 year old guy (me) has to pay just for my demographics.

Men have more accidents. They drive more aggressively, buy faster cars, and they put more miles on them.
It’s not sexism, it’s just arithmetic. Insurance companies use things called actuarial tables, which are solely based on the laws of probability.

This fact is surely sexism based on pure stereotypes rather than relevant information such as the driver’s history. Doesn’t this just portray the stereotype that men are more irresponsible or ‘risk takers’ when it comes to driving? Why not base car insurance on ethnicity?
thanks for the answers everyone. But the question is more relevant to stereotypes based on statistics: is this fair? Obviously it this were to happen based on one’s ethnicity, then everyone would complain about it, and why shouldn’t they? It’s racism: and this seems sexism to me. Input?

I mean inst that discrimination. Shoudnt every1 start w/ the same amt of trust then if do sumthing bad u get nailed with higher rates. But 2 start all men off w/ a higher rate is bad. Even if it is true that men in general get into more accidents than women, that deosnt mean all men r worse drivers than women. And thats sumthing else i dont get, i thoguht the sterotype was that women r not good drivers. Isnt this car insurance thing similar to saying oh well it looks like most terrorists r of a middle eastern background so lets give those ppl a hard time. Well, i think the same applied 2 car insurance 4 men, we shud be given the same rates until we do sumthing bad. You can just go to google and type “insurance quotes” and you will get a bunch of insurance sites that will give you a free quote at how much it will cost to insure someone based of several things such as:
gender
income
occupation/school
type of car
and many other things
So to answer your question YES females do cost significantly less then males for car insurance because males have a larger history of being recklace drivers. Especially for teenagers
